Full description
The classic way to chase the aurora: leave the lights of Tromsø behind in a comfortable bus and let a guide who does this every night take you to where the sky is clearest.
There is no fixed destination. Each evening the guides read the weather and pick the spots outside town with the best chance of open sky and little light pollution, and the bus may move between several locations during the night.
Once you stop, the aim is to keep you warm and comfortable while you wait. The guides serve hot drinks and biscuits, answer questions and talk about life in the Arctic, and if conditions allow they light a bonfire. When the lights appear, the photography guide takes portraits of you under the aurora and will also help you get good shots with your own camera or phone.
If the aurora does not show on your evening, the operator lets you join the same tour on another night at half price. Minimum age is 4. Dress warmly in layers; you will be standing outside for long stretches.
